Cricket and Chennai B-)

Already we have so many things to feel proud about being a Chennaite, again this one is added to the list. In Tamil Nadu its not Madurai Superkings, Kancheepuram Super kings etc :-P Its CHENNAI SUPER KINGS (CSK) (No offence).

Cricket is a popular game in India which attracts millions of people. The BCCI organizes different types of domestic and international cricket tournaments across various locations. In 2008, it introduced Indian premier league (IPL) 20-20 matches which involve eight franchise teams that fight for the champion title. A franchise will be allowed to play the matches with 6 top most foreign players to win the prizes amounts. Chennai Super Kings shortly known as CSK is the most valuable team in the IPL as it has won the titles 2 times. It is owned by India cements and MS Dhoni appointed as the captain of the team. The team has set many records which added feathers to Dhoni’s captainship.

CSK is the only team which reached the semi-finals in seven IPL editions. It also won the champions league title 2 times. Suresh raina, Dhoni, Ashwin, Dwanye bravo and Ravindra Jadeja are the noted players in the team. CSK won runner-up titles twice in 2008 and 2012. Moreover, it is rated as the most valued and consistent team in the history of IPL matches. The team is the fourth expensive one that is bought by India cements. In 2014, some of the players moved to other teams and the team retained two all rounders. Suresh raina is the first player to score 3000 runs in the IPL and no one has broken this record so far. CSK has won all the matches in its home pitch in 2011 thus made a history.

The team’s uniform color is yellow with roaring lion as its logo. Telecom giant Aircel is the main sponsor of the team and acquired promotional rights on the shirts, caps and pants of players from the year 2008. The famous “whistle podu” slogan is the theme song of CSK team and a familiar one among various communities. CSK has achieved 60 % success rates in IPL matches and also highest by a team. Although the team was named in the match fixing cases in 2013, it is still ranked as a best one among cricket lovers. The first season of IPL featured 8 teams and CSK won the runner title in the final as it lost to Rajasthan royals.

In 2011, two new teams included in the IPL and the total went up to 10. The format was changed in this season to reduce the number of matches. CSK won the champion title for the second time by beating Bangalore royal challengers. In 2010, it became the first team to win both IPL and Champion league title successively in a year. Ravichandran Ashwin is the leading wicket taker of the team. Moreover, the team has won nearly 5 fair play awards from IPL committee for its discipline and other qualities. Stephen Fleming, the former captain of New Zealand is the coach of CSK and he suggests valuable tips to the players while taking the opponents. The team also chased the highest scores successfully against the other teams in IPL seasons.

So as you read through all the information, hope you got a clear view about the team. Even though CSK team doesn't play anymore it is and will be the favourite team in Chennai. We could still see people wearing CSK t.shirts which shows how much they love them.

City of BEACHES !

The glittering gold sand....the smell of the sea and salt filling the air....the cooing of sundal vendors...... the aroma of hot bhajjis..... numerous feet filling the sands.. the feast of sunrise and sunset over the horizon... a walk along the sea shore or a romantic evening with your loved one! Be it anything, you can come here. Being the second largest coastline of the world it offers a wholesome entertainment to anyone who stops by. Yeah every metro city has one or the other place as its identity but Chennai has got the world's second largest beach as one of its identity. Its so attractive that it attracts 30,000 visitors a day during weekdays and about 50,000 visitors a day during weekends. Apart from enjoying on the beach, there are many historical monuments built at the junction of pathway stand. Some of them include Annadurai and MGR memorials, statues of heroes from Tamil culture, Indo Saracenic buildings, Monuments of Tamil scholars, patriots and famous personalities including Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose. One of the most remarkable effigies is the Truimph of Labor by Debiprasad Roy Choudhary.

Various stalls of food items including murukku, sundal,  ice-cream and other South-Indian snacks are located in its vicinity to curb the cravings of the foodies. An aquarium, situated near the beach, comprises of some of the most astonishing and splendid range of tropical sea and freshwater fishes. It gives you a chance to be familiar with the aquatic life and see what God has blessed the sea life of Chennai with. And then south to its location   is situated the Ice House, which was used for storage of ice brought from great lakes in North America during the time of British.

The most favourable time to visit the Marina Beach is during   November to February, when the temperature is moderate in Chennai and the palms and casuarinas   provides you with lovely cold breeze and ample shade for taking rest, enjoying  the  natural  beauty of  the sea and the beach. The vibrance of the beach is really awesome and it is simply amazing when your feet are caressed with the cold waters of the sea.

Besant Nagar Beach
In Chennai people visit beaches for their birthdays along with their buddies, and during Pongal holidays people just rush into Marina with their family but as the crowd is really scary the police authorities never allow them to step into the water. As beach is a cheap tourist spot everyone from all over Tamil Nadu come here and spend their time. On Valentines day usually beaches are booked for the couples only. Few residents of Chennai use these beaches for doing their exercises, jogging, play beach games, fly kites, take a bath, enjoy the breeze etc. Many death rituals also take place here. During Vinayagar Chaturthi statues of Lord Ganesha are immersed here.

Other than Marina, Chennai has Elliots beach, Golden beach. Many resorts are situated near these beaches which brings many foreign visitors too. And the Prathana theatre in Injambakkam ECR is an open air theatre which is everyone's favourite. People who love long drives with their loved ones visit these beaches in midnight and spend their leisure time.

It has become a culture of Chennaites to visit beaches regularly on their special occasions and for long drives. Especially on New Years Eve people wish to be at the beach when the clock strikes 12 and cut cake with their friends, family etc. Yeah the beach becomes a party house for the mixed crowd ;-)

If you want to experience this kind of a party well come and visit Chennai and its beaches. There is so much to explore here and have the best time of your life.
